The past year has been tough for so many reasons. I’m not going to focus on those in this post. Instead, I want to look back at the things I accomplished this year. It was a big year for me. Below are the top 5 things I accomplished!
1. I got my first passport stamp
I got my passport in 2012 after I had broken up (one time of many) with a long term boyfriend. It was my resolution to finally take a trip like I had always dreamed of. Of course life happened and I got back together with my boyfriend. This year was finally my year. My first passport stamp was from Barbados. I went on a whim with a friend in February. You can read about it here.
2. I traveled solo for the first time (basically)
Traveling solo has always been a goal of mine but also a great fear of mine. I booked a trip to London to visit a friend I’d met in NYC. He wasn’t able to take time off of work so I decided to book some solo trips to occupy myself during the week. I went to Paris and Dublin by myself. It was only for a couple days but it was solo! You can read about Dublin here and Paris here.
3. I finally launched my blog
I’m not sure how far this blog will take me, but its one of those things I always wanted to do but never knew where or how to start. One day this year, I sat down and figured out wordpress. It was frustrating as hell and took patience and research, but I figured it our well enough to put this together. I chose a domain name, got it on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Pinterest. Here we are!
4. I SCUBA dove
SCUBA diving was never something I thought I wanted to do or would even have an opportunity to do. But when an opportunity presents itself, I am not one to turn it down. When I booked my Barbados trip and the idea was thrown out, I jumped at it. I did a discovery dive and swam with fish, around coral and through a ship wreck. You can see a video of it here.
5. I kicked ass at my 9-5
I’ve been at my job for just over a year now. I’m a strategy manager for social media company that runs media across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest and Snapchat. I had very little background or experience before I started but have a love for marketing and strategy. I worked my ass off this year learning and growing as much as I could. I got an amazing annual review and this year got a case study published and was quoted in an article on Direct Marketing News.
I’ve marked off quite a few things from my bucket list this year. The crazy thing is it has only made my list longer. The more I do, the more I want to do. The more I see, the more I want to see. Next year is going to be bigger and better than this one. I know have my firsts and my foundation set. The next year will be about building and expanding. I have two new trips planned; I bought a new camera to step up my photography game and will take what I’ve learned and continue to grow and improve!
